CLINICAL HISTORY - ULTRASOUND CORE BIOPSY. LEFT AXILLARY LYMPH NODE. ? METASTATIC INVOLVEMENT (BREAST EXAM NEGATIVE).
* SPECIMEN SITE - LEFT AXILLARY LYMPH NODE

GROSS DESCRIPTION

Left axillary lymph node biopsy: The specimen has five cores measuring from 0.5 to 1.6 cm. Totally submitted in one cassette with a request for levels x four.

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION

Review of sections of this needle core biopsy of the left axillary lymph node shows the presence of a malignant lymphoma, consistent with follicular (nodular) lymphoma and consistent with a B-cell neoplasm. The tumor consists of a recapitulation of the architectural and cytologic features of the normal secondary lymphoid follicle. The neoplasm demonstrates neoplastic nodules in a lymphoid background. The pattern shows varying sized follicles, consistent with neoplasia. CD-3 and CD-20 stains confirm the presence of a B-cell neoplasm.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS

Left axilla, needle core biopsies
- FOLLICULAR (NODULAR) LYMPHOMA, CONSISTENT WITH B-CELL NEOPLASIA.
