This sample is negative for evidence of either Chlamydia trachomatis or of Neisseria gonorrhea DNA as detected by methods of the polymerase chain reaction.  If clinical suspicion of infection remains, repeat collection and testing by culture based methodology is recommended.

BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS PANEL BY RT-PCRDate Reported: 2/27/2008

Gardnerella Vaginalis: Positive  Excessive numbers of G. vaginalis organisms have been identified in this specimen strongly suggesting Bacterial Vaginosis. This patient is at risk for upper tract infection (PID, endometritis) as well as Preterm Delivery if pregnant. Please correlate these findings clinically. Treatment trials suggest that metronidazole or Clindamycin are effective options in both pregnant and non-pregnant status.

Mobiluncus Mulieris/Curtisii: Negative  No evidence of excessive numbers of Mobiluncus organisms have been detected in this specimen.

Bacteroides Fragilis: Positive  Excessive numbers of B. fragilis organisms have been identified in this specimen strongly suggesting Bacterial Vaginosis. This patient is at risk for upper tract infection (PID, endometritis) as well as Preterm Delivery if pregnant. Please correlate these findings clinically. Treatment trials suggest that metronidazole or Clindamycin are effective options in both pregnant and non-pregnant status.
