GROSS: 50 ccs of slightly cloudy yellow fluid in a urocyte container. ThinPrep and residual fluid submitted for FISH testing. MICROSCOPIC: Review of the ThinPrep prepared from this urine for FISH testing shows scattered atypical urothelial cells with increased nuclear cytoplasmic ratios and features suggesting advanced dysplasia suspicious for malignancy.
FISH:Review of the FISH reaction on cytology from this urine specimen shows increased numbers of mutations associated with transitional and urothelial cell malignancy. The combination of increased numbers of nuclear mutations as well as the cytology is consistent with a malignant diagnosis.
1. Urine for cytology, ThinPrep
- ATYPICAL UROTHELIAL CELLS SUSPICIOUS FOR MALIGNANCY.
2. FISH testing
- INCREASED MUTATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH UROTHELIAL MALIGNANCY, CONSISTENT WITH NEOPLASTIC TRANSFORMATION.
